In observance of the United States Labor Day holiday the Rent A Coder office will be closed on Monday, September 6th. However, we will be approving projects and making payment verifications two time during the day; once early-morning and once in the early evening. We will resume our normal business hours on Tuesday, September 7th and wish everyone who celebrates it a happy Labor Day.

A big thank you to all site users for helping us win the 2010 Inc 5000 award for fastest growing private company, for the fourth year in a row!

Brief Summary:
Some demonstration Python scripts to send Text messages and Email messages when receiving a message from the RS232 interface on Telit GSM/GPRS modems.

Requirements Interview Answers:
To help you bid more accurately, the employer was interviewed about the requirements for this project. Below are their answers. Untitled Page
Project Type: What kind of work do you need done?
Software related (Includes desktop applications and internet websites)
Project Parts: What do you want the worker to do on this project?
Programming: The worker will take the requirements and translate them into the language of the computer (and test it).
Program Type: What kind of software should the worker create (and/or install)?
  • Other:Pythin Script for Telit GSM modules
Legal: 1) I require complete and fully-functional working program(s) in executable form as well as complete source code of all work done (so that I may modify it in the future).
2) Deliverables must be in ready-to-run condition as follows (depending on the nature of the deliverables):
2a) If there are any server-side deliverables (intended to only exist in one place in the Buyer's environment) then they must be installed by the Seller in ready-to-run condition (unless specified elsewhere by the Buyer).
2b) All other software (including but not limited to any desktop software or software the buyer intends to distribute) must include a software installation package that will install the software in ready-to-run condition on the platform(s) specified in this bid request (unless specified elsewhere by the Buyer).
3) All deliverables will be considered "work made for hire" under U.S. Copyright law. Buyer will receive exclusive and complete copyrights to all work purchased.
3b) No part of the deliverable may contain any copyright restricted 3rd party components (including GPL, GNU, Copyleft, etc.) unless all copyright ramifications are explained AND AGREED TO by the buyer on the site per the seller's Seller Legal Agreement.
Other Requirements:

I am looking for a few simple demo Python scripts to send messages using a Telit GSM/GPRS module.

The Telit module will receive data periodically in the form n"n/nn/nn<cr><lf>" where nn is a ASCII 2 digit number 00, 0, 1 .. 29 + 99 The leading zero may sometimes be replaced by a “>” character which should be tranmitted but otherwise can be ignored. I want to send these messages without any translation – i.e. as straight ASCII strings, the SMS and Email messages should ideally be time stamped.

I would like scripts to do the following :-

1 ) send a SMS text message each time a message is received.

2) send an Email each time a message is received.

3) send message via GPRS to a website each time a message is received. (optional)

The message should contain the message string recived.

I would also like more advanced scripts that reads a limit value by sending a command “RLT<cr><lf>”, that will have a response “RLT = nn, nn, nn<cr><lf>”, on start and then uses this value to determine if the message should be sent or not. The “>” symbol can be ignored for the purpose of comparison but should still be transmitted in the message.

Each received value should be compared with the received limit value and if any of the three values exceeds the limit the text/email message should be sent. Please make sure the SMS text message or email is only sent the first time the value is exceeded, and reset when the value received is below the value received. Please also send an “Alarm condition over” message when all three values are below the limit values for the first time.

Obviously the SMS phone number, the Email address, SMTP server and login details need to be configurable, so the code should make this easy, e.g. by having labelled assignments near the top of the code.

I would ideally like instructions of how to load and test the Python Scripts on a Telit module. I am currently using a Telit GE863 module but also want to use a GM862-GPS module.

Future enhancements

– more advanced and configurable scripts, with additional information read from the device and sent as part of the messages.

- The storage of results and periodic email messages giving say a day’s result in one go.

- Web site page logging of GPRS messages of the values as they are sent, with text and graphical display.

  • All deliverables must be uploaded to vWorker.com before the deadline(s) for this project...with no exceptions. If this contract makes it impossible for a competent person to do this, then do not start this project...but instead alert vWorker.com of an un-arbitratable, illegal project.
  • Remember that contacting the other party outside of the site (by email, phone, etc.) on all business projects < $500 (before the employer's money is escrowed) is a violation of both the employer and worker agreements. vWorker.com monitors all site activity for such violations and can instantly expel transgressors on the spot, so we thank you in advance for your cooperation. If you notice a violation please help out the site and report it. Thanks for your help.
